McDonald's has applied for an extension of the retail unit in Aviemore that the company intends to open up in.

However, it is not to incorporate a drive-through but instead to help deal with litter.

The corporate giant has also lodged plans for the installation of a ventilation system for the premises which used to be occupied by Superdrug.

As part of the planning process, McDonald's has also spelt out how it will deal with rubbish at the site which has been one of the concerns raised by the local community.

It also shows that there will be space for approximately 24 covers within the internal restaurant area.

An odour assessment has been submitted too for the proposed fast food restaurant.

The plans have just been lodged by the Edinburgh-based office of their agents Lichfields with Highland Council's planning service.

The agents say in the supporting statement: "This application seeks planning permission for minor external alterations to Unit 6 of Aviemore Retail Park in order to facilitate the conversion of the unit into a McDonald’s restaurant.

"This application seeks planning permission for the following external works – external alterations including formation of corral to rear, and associated works at the unit

"The restaurant and takeaway will be accessed from the existing vehicular accesses from the retail park car park.

"Pedestrian links are also provided for customers visiting on foot, with a pedestrian only access provided immediately to the east of the proposed unit onto an unnamed road that connects with Grampian Road.

"Servicing and waste/recycling storage would be located to the rear of the restaurant in the proposed corral extension which is planned to extend to 46.5 square metres....

"In summary, the proposals will bring this prominent vacant unit back into active use, providing a new restaurant in a highly accessible location and fulfilling a demand for McDonald’s services in this area."

The company has detailed its waste management strategy and recycling record in the supporting statement which runs to 16 pages.

The agents state this is based 'upon the hierarchy of Design, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Disposal'.

It also reveals: "In order to increase recycling rates further, a new customer recycling station is being rolled-out as part of a UK-wide refurbishment programme.

"The recycling stations allow customers to separate paper cups, plastic bottles and cups, and decant liquids. The cups are sent to a specialist paper cup recycler and the plastic will be recycled along with the plastic from the kitchens.

"With good levels of separation, McDonald's new waste procedures could generate a recycling rate of up to 65 per cent, exceeding the European target."

McDonald's has been contacted for a comment on its Aviemore plans.
