McDonald's take another step towards opening up in Aviemore

Plans for the first McDonald's in the strath have taken another step forward with the famous golden arches getting the go-ahead.
Highland Council planners have approved the application for the signage at Unit 6 of the Aviemore Retail Park.
The premises had previously been home to Superdrug but have been vacant for more than 18 months.

Four types of signage have been given consent by council planners using their delegated powers including for a 'Gold Arch symbol' measuring 2.15m by 1.8m at the front of the fast food restaurant.
There will also be illuminated McDonald's lettering approximately 3.63m by 0.4m to be located above the main entrance doorway.
The other two signs will be added to the existing retail park totems advertising the businesses at the retail park.
Council planning officer Megan Smith, stated in her approval decision, said: "The signs are considered appropriate for this unit and location, satisfying the requirements set out in Highland Council’s shopfront design guidance.
"Two of the proposed signs will be added into the existing totems and therefore will be suitably sited and displayed.
"There are no implications on amenity or public safety."
A change of use to be able to serve food at the premises has already been granted by Highland Council.
Opinion has been split on the first McDonald's moving into the strath but local social media responses were generally in favour.
Supporters point out that they will no longer have to travel 30 miles for a McDonald's and also that it could be difficult to find places to eat in Aviemore during the main tourism season.
However, those against the corporate giant opening up in the village believe that littering could become a major problem near to the site.
McDonald's have been contacted for a comment on their plans for Aviemore.
