Support in the strath continues to pour out for Ukraine in its darkest days through donations, fundraising and symbolic gestures.

The latter can be seen in The Square in Grantown after historian and community councillor Bill Sadler gained permission to fly the Ukrainian flag in front of the townhouse – with widespread support coming from the people of the Strathspey capital.

"One man’s dream is a nation’s nightmare," said Mr Sadler.

"The flag flying at the top of Grantown's Square is just a small tangible way in which people in Grantown could express their feelings.

"Like others of all nations we are shocked by what we see and hear and our hearts go out to those who through no fault of their own are suffering beyond what we can imagine and our spirits are roused by the defiance, solidarity and courage of those driven from their country and those who fight to retain their freedom against all the odds.

"When the suggestion of flying the flag was proposed there was an instant and almost universally positive response.

"It is very simply an expression of support for the people of Ukraine and in no way is it a condemnation of the people of Russia.

"It is Grantown's collective voice amongst the millions of others worldwide."
