Most of Aviemore Primary School's kitchen staff members are now self-isolating after one of the team tested positive for Covid.

Highland Council is bringing in supply cooks but it means that there will be no hot lunches.

Sandwich options will be provided with older children asked to bring in packed lunches from home.

The affected staff are not expected to return to the school's kitchen until next Tuesday.

The latest positive case appears to be part of a rise in the past week of Covid cases in the Aviemore area.

Headteacher Emma MacCallum has told parents in correspondence this afternoon: "Unfortunately today we have had a confirmed case of Covid in our kitchen staff team.

"This has meant that most of the remainder of our kitchen staff are having to isolate for the rest of this week.

"Supply cooks will be starting tomorrow and will provide ‘Grab and Go’ lunches – similar to Friday’s option – for nursery, P1-3 and children in P4-7 who are entitled to free school meals.

"We ask that the remainder of children in P4-7 please being a packed lunch from home.

"The smaller relief team will not have the capacity to provide lunches for all."

The Aviemore school is the biggest primary school in Badenoch and Strathspey.

Ms MacCallum said that she is expecting normal lunches to resume from next Tuesday (June 8).

She also thanks parents for their understanding and co-operation.
