Support has poured in for the Old Bridge Inn after the popular Aviemore restaurant and bar revealed it will have to remain closed until the middle of next week after a staff member tested positive for Covid.

The business on the village's Old Dalfaber Road will be shut until next Wednesday (June 2) when the bar will reopen at midday.

The restaurant will then start trading again the next day from 5pm.

In a social media post, the Old Bridge Inn said yesterday: "Well that all (de)escalated quickly.

"We are no longer opening today, or at all this week, or even Monday to Tuesday next week.

"The last few staff – who we thought had escaped any risk of being deemed as close contacts of a positive Covid test – have now been flagged and are now self-isolating.

"Saturday's party with The WOOK Karawane Highland Slice is now cancelled.

"As things stand, we will re-open for drinks only on Wednesday 2nd June at midday, followed by full kitchen service at 5pm on Thursday.

"This is a pretty stark reminder that even if most vulnerable people have now been vaccinated and only those who may not suffer badly from the virus are left unvaccinated, we are far from being clear of this curse.

"We are gutted for our visitors and even more gutted for our isolating staff.

"Bunkhouse bookings are not impacted in any way and go-ahead as planned.

"The gift shop remains open, for all your record bag and gift voucher needs."

The Old Bridge Inn has won lots of praise for the way in which is has handled the set-back. The business had to close on Sunday less than week after customers were allowed back inside the premises to drink alcohol.

Janine Dixon posted: "Not great situation to be in but well done on your openness, honesty and communication during a difficult time.

"You show compassion and consideration for your staff and clientele. We look forward to visiting again in October. We were there in October 2020 and felt welcomed and safe during difficult and uncertain times. Hope you have a good summer season."

Erin McBean stated: "You are brilliant employers and I am really thankful that after all the setbacks and disappointments, your staff still come first. Cheers OBI, will visit as soon as you open to show some community support."

Wendy Maltinsky posted: "I’m so sorry to hear this. You’ve steered such a cautious route by taking all necessary precautions and making customers feel so safe. You really didn’t need this setback. "Hoping things improve quickly for you all and well done to your staff for testing."

Carol-ann Tullis wrote: "This is a clear reminder that Covid is still about closer than we realise."

The staff member is a back of house employee and the Old Bridge Inn had good infection control measures in place for customers visiting the premises prior to its temporary closure.
