THE A9 is currently closed in both directions following a two-vehicle crash south of Newtonmore.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called at 2pm at the scene and released one casualty from one of the vehicles involved before handing over to the ambulance service.

The stop call was just before 3pm, with one appliance remaining on the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a crash involving two cars on the A9 near the Ralia Junction at Newtonmore shortly before 2pm on Saturday, 5 August.

"The road is currently closed and emergency services are at the scene."

The incident took place at the Ralia junction, a notorious accident blackspot.

Road users are advised to seek an alternative route at this time.
