There have been some big omissions from the shinty teams of the seasons.

Whilst two Kingussie players and one Newtonmore star made the cut, there were some rather big surprises.

Red and Blue forwards Ruaridh Anderson and James Falconer (Kingussie) and 'More's Rory Kennedy are in the Mowi Premiership team there is no place for the shinty's player of the season.

Kings defender Robert Mabon is the most notable absentee but the lack of Badenoch players in the WCA National team of the year also stands out despite the club lifting the title with only the prolific Kirsty Deans included.

Mabon was a key part of the Red and Blues’ side which won the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup, the cottages.com MacTavish Cup and the Mowi Premiership title during 2023.

The towering full back was a rock in a Kingussie defence which only conceded 13 goals in their 18 Mowi Premiership games.

Nearly 20,000 votes were cast in total to determine the best of teams for the Mowi Premiership, National, WCA National and WCA Division 2.

In order to narrow down the vast pool of talent, every captain was asked to name their own team of the season which was not allowed to contain any players from their club.

From that, the most popular names in each position, from each league, were then put to social media poll with victorious players making the team.

A Camanachd Association spokesperson said: "With representation from 19 clubs, the diverse talent across the country has been clear to see once again. Just shy of 20,000 votes were cast."
