KINGUSSIE continue to hold all four major trophies in shinty after beating Skye 1-0 to retain the MacTavish Cup.

Captain James Falconer scored the only goal of the game to give Kingussie victory at Bught Park in Inverness on Saturday.

Manager Iain Borthwick is pleased that his team retained the trophy as they bid to emulate's last year's feat of completing the grand slam of winning the MacTavish Cup, Macaulay Cup, Camanachd Cup as well as the Premiership.

Speaking about Saturday's victory, Borthwick said: "The first trophy is always tough especially on the boys themselves.

"What they did last year getting the grand slam, the start of the season is tough knowing every team wants to beat them.

"There were nerves in the performance, but i'm chuffed for guys, they defended well and the back four was superb.

"Our goalkeeper only had two saves to make."

Skye put in a stubborn defensive performance during the 90 minutes, which came as no surprise to Borthwick who says they were a tough unit to break down.

"We knew that from the start, we played up at Skye and they were tough then, they are young quick and solid at back. They made it difficult for forwards and made the tackles.

"They didn't give us a rest and we knew we had to work hard for it."

While Kingussie are looking to defend all four trophies this season, Borthwick says he only wants his players to focus on this season and not the past.

"We have drummed into the boys to forget last year, it is a new year, the boys are doing the right thing to forget last year."
