SAVIO Genini says it would be a dream for Kingussie to win the Camanachd Cup final on their own ground.

The most historic prize in shinty will be up for grabs at The Dell when Kingussie will be looking to win the trophy for the 24th time against Lovat on Saturday.

Despite being the second most successful team in the competition behind Newtonmore with 34 titles, Kingussie have not gone all the way since 2014.

Captain Genini says it is the dream of every kid who grows up in the village wanting to win the Camanachd Cup, and believes doing it in their own backyard would heighten such an achievement.

“The Camanachd Cup is the one everybody wants to win in shinty,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter where you are from or who you play for, you want to win the Camanachd Cup when you are a kid. In Badenoch, it is the one everybody wants to win.

“You don’t want to play football or do anything else, you want to win the Camanachd Cup and to do it on our own ground is huge.”

Kingussie are on for a grand slam of winning all four major titles, having already won the MacTavish Cup and Macaulay Cup, they are also top of the Premiership as well as going into the Camanachd Cup final on Saturday.

Genini says they are not thinking of a clean sweep of major competitions just yet, instead just taking one game at a time in pursuit of success.

“We have to take it one game at a time,” he said.

“We have been good at doing that this year, putting the occasion aside and concentrating on one game at a time and we will keep doing that.

“There is still a lot of shinty to be played and any team can beat anyone on their day.

“If you count your chickens before they hatch, you bite your nose to spite your face, so we will see what happens.”
