Strathspey Thistle's away day to Aberdeen managed to beat the big freeze with every other Highland League fixture being postponed.

Owen Paterson gave Rob MacCormack's team the surprise lead in the 10th minute at Banks O' Dee.

The high flyers equalised through Max Anderson just before the half-hour but the visitors then held out until the last quarter when three goals including two spot kicks sealed the points for the hosts.

Converting from the spot were Dayshonne Golding (71st) and then Michael Philipson (78th) before Lachie Macleod grabbed the fourth in the 84th minute.

The victory combined with the postponements mean that Banks O' Dee move to the top of the Highland League.

Both Clachnacuddin and Nairn County ended up without a game in the Highland League with both Grant Street Park and Station Park in an unplayable condition.

Ross County was the highest profile victim of the raft of postponements that hit Scottish sport over the weekend.

The Staggies’ scheduled trip to Livingston for a Scottish Premiership contest was postponed early on Saturday morning, leaving County boss Derek Adams (pictured) unable to build on his first win back.

A number of other matches throughout the SPFL were affected too, and the tiers below were no different.

Highland League weekend postponements:

  • Clachnacuddin FC v Inverurie Loco Works
  • Deveronvale FC v Buckie Thistle FC
  • Turriff United FC v Lossiemouth FC
  • Nairn County FC v Huntly FC
  • Forres Mechanics FC v Brechin City FC
  • Keith FC v Wick Academy FC
  • Rothes FC v Formartine United FC
