Jags boss Rob MacCormack said his team is itching to play again after not having a match since mid-December.

But this Saturday’s game at home to an in-form Nairn County was only rated at 50-50 as the Strathy went to press on Wednesday because of the frozen Seafield Park pitch.

There has been a thaw in the strath since but the game will be subject to a pitch inspection.

MacCormack said midweek: “Right now the ground is unplayable – it is absolutely solid – but the forecast is for slightly warmer weather later in the week and on Saturday in particular so we will just have to take it as it comes.

“Hopefully the game will be on. December 16 was our last match so we are itching to play again.

“Nairn are one of the form teams in the Highland League and have been on a good run. We know what to expect and we will have to be at our very best to get anything out of the game.

“But we know what we are capable of and we pushed Formartine all the way in our last game and we were unlucky not to get an equaliser right at the end.

“We need to start turning these good performances into points now.”

MacCormack said that the players had trained well over the festive break and he has pretty much a full squad to call upon.

“It is the first time in a long while,” he commented. “It is good that we have brought in Ewan Neil on-loan and extended Liam Shewan’s loan so we are building up a stronger squad.

“I’ve always said we have a good core that we need to add one or two more to which we are doing.”

Left sided defender Neil has been on the fringes at Rothes’ Mackessack Park this season.

MacCormack said: “We are short of left sided defenders with Liam Grant being injured so it was something we were looking to address. Ewan has trained well and will hopefully be a good addition.”
