The Jags return to action this Saturday with a tough game at home to Formartine United and a new kick-off time of 2pm.

The Aberdeenshire side are currently fifth in the Highland League having won nine of their 14 games so far this season.

They come into the game buoyed by a 3-2 win against neighbours Huntly – having trailed 2-0 – in the first round of the GPH Builders Merchants Highland League Cup on Saturday.

Jags boss Charlie Brown said: “It will certainly be another tough game. Formartine are a very good side, however, they do concede a few goals so if we can tighten up defensively I know we can cause them some problems and hopefully pick something up.”

Darren Brew is expected to return to the Jags squad if he comes through training.

The cup first round produced 33 goals, red cards and last minute thrills at the weekend.

Formartine United staged a great comeback at Huntly.

Two Robbie Foster goals in the space of a minute had the hosts 2-0 up midway through the first half and seemingly on course to avenge two losses to United this season.

However, the Pitmedden men had other ideas with Jonny Crawford quickly pulling a goal back.

New signing Aidan Combe netted his first Formartine goal since his move from Fraserburgh to level and in-form Crawford plundered a stoppage time winner for the visitors – the defender’s seventh goal in his last nine outings.

Meanwhile Lossiemouth – conquerors of the Jags in the preliminary round – were knocked out of the Highland League Cup by Nairn County who avenged a 5-1 league defeat away to the Moray side by turning over the Coasters 3-0 at Grant Park.

They will now face title chasers Brechin City who had to dig deep for their 4-2 victory against Rothes at Glebe Park.
