Newtonmore shinty star Steve Macdonald is signed by Strathspey Thistle

Newtonmore shinty star Steven Macdonald has signed for football club Strathspey Thistle.

The Scottish international is the latest to come through the door in what has been a very busy week at Seafield Park.

Six new players have joined the club in recent days following the official appointment of Bobby Beckwith last week.

The Grantown club revealed: “Today we can officially announce the signing of Steven Macdonald on a permanent deal.

“This is a signing that shows intent from the club to go out and really manage to get the players we want and to get the deal over the line.

”Steven is a fantastic player who can play at centre back or centre midfield.

“He is composed and very calm on the ball.

“He has played at youth level for Ross County where he eventually decided to play shinty over Football.

“Later down the line Steven played for Grantown FC, Spey Valley Utd and Loch Ness FC.

“He has won silverware with all of them and was a huge player in those squads.

”New manager Bobby Beckwith and his team in the football department are delighted to have Steven onboard.”

The club has also announced today the signing of centre half Ewan Neil from Rothes.

The Jags spokesperson said: “Ewan is a great ball playing centre half and managing to secure him on a permanent deal was one of our priorities over the summer.

“He will be another great addition to the managers already growing squad.”

Neil has previously played for Clachnacuddin, Rothes, Loch Ness FC.

He follows the return of Liam Shewan to Seafield Park as part of a swap deal involving winger Ross Logan with Rothes.

Also putting pen to paper this past week are young centre half Jamie Calder, Josh Race, Connor MacPhee and Jordan Laidlaw.
