Kingussie boss John Gibson was pleased that his side finally got a proper workout ahead of tomorrow's season opener.

The Red and Blues beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 5-2 at the weekend in the friendly.

Following recent postponements against Caberfeidh and Fort William, Gibson was particularly keen to see his players in action ahead of tomorrow’s league opener against Caberfeidh.

He said: “It was good to get a game under our belt ahead of the league opener; we needed that.

“The pitch was under a couple of inches of snow at 6pm on the Friday but a good thaw and strong wind left it clear and playable by the time the pitch inspection came around at 9am on Saturday morning.

“We were missing a few players but I really wanted the opportunity to see some of our younger players in action as I believe we will need them for what hopefully will be a long season.

“They all did well so I was also pleased with that aspect.

“There is also the possibility that Ryan MacWilliam could return to the fold which would also add to our numbers.”

Gibson also reserved praise for his goalscorers, adding: “Dylan (Borthwick) is such a natural finisher on both sides and he is excellent at making space for himself in front of goal.

“He had a year out following a knee injury so last season was his first full year back.

“He’s only 20 and has been working hard to catch up on the others.”

“I’ve also been very impressed with how Savio (Genini) has taken to the captaincy.

“He is really good with the other boys and he made a significant contribution on Saturday with his two goals.”

Glasgow Mid Argyll, newly promoted to the Mowi Premiership, are now managed by ex-Lovat and Beauly boss and current Scotland Under-21 Head Coach Alan MacRae.

His side had already played twice this pre-season, beating both Inveraray and Oban Celtic by three goal margins without conceding a goal.

There was a Kingussie debut for former Glenurquhart player Cameron Bremner.

The Dell side took the chance to field some of their younger players with Eoin Baikie looking comfortable at wing back.

Lee Riddoch and George Taylor Ramsay also got valuable game time with Pavel Nagle given a good run out in the second half.

GMA suffered a blow with the news that Ewen Fraser suffered a broken finger in the game and, like Calum McLay, he will miss the opening weeks of the new season.
