Kingussie’s bid to retain the Mowi Premiership will be tested when form side Kyles Athletic visit the Dell on Saturday.

Kyles have won their last five successive league matches and travel north sitting in third place in shinty’s top-flight, just a point behind Kingussie who have a game in hand.

Kingussie boss Iain Borthwick may have one eye on the following week’s Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup final against Oban Camanachd but knows there is still work to do in the league.

He said: “Kyles have been on a good run and if they win on Saturday, they will be right back in the title race.

“It’s a tough fixture to have ahead of the Scottish final as Kyles are pushing and know they need to win.

“We had a good training session on Saturday morning. Fraser Munro has shown no ill-effects after making his comeback against Skye and Zander Michie, who missed the Skye match with an ankle injury, took part the whole session as did Cammy Bremner who has been managing shin-splints.

“Thomas Borthwick also took part, and he looks ready to return, and you can expect to see him for at least part of the game against Kyles.

“However, Kieran Macpherson sat out most of the session as he took a heavy blow to the knee against Skye and there is still some swelling. We’ll monitor him as the week goes on.”

Meantime Newtonmore must wait to complete their season. Co-managers Norman MacArthur and Evan Cheyne take their side to Peterson Park to play the league’s bottom side Glasgow Mid Argyll in their penultimate match of the season. ]

However, that game doesn’t take place until Saturday 30 September 2023.

‘More also complete their 2023 season on the road, but only three miles along the road, as they play neighbours Kingussie at the Dell a week later, on Saturday 7 October 2023.
