Kingussie twice came from behind to win the Artemis Macaulay Cup for the third successive time, beating Oban Camanachd 3-2 following an entertaining final at Mossfield yesterday.
Daniel MacVicar’s deft flick gave Oban Camanachd a 7th minute lead but James Hutchison turned home Savio Genini’s free-hit to level just five minutes after.
This was a much improved Oban Camanachd performance from their 4-1 defeat to the Kings in the previous week’s Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup semi-final and Daniel Madej put them back in front on 19 minutes and they took their 2-1 lead into the break.
After weathering some Oban Camanachd pressure early in the second half, Kingussie went on to dominate the remainder of the final and Ruaridh Anderson got what proved to be the winner on 64 minutes after the Oban defence missed the chance to cut out Roddy Young’s corner from the right.
Oban Camanachd keeper Cammy Sutherland stood between the Kings and a bigger winning margin, earning him the Artemis man of the match accolade.
After being presented with the trophy by Graeme Mitchell from sponsors Artemis, Kingussie captain Savio Genini said: “We weren’t at our game in the first half whilst Oban Camanachd were and they deserved their interval lead.
“We had the wind in the second half and we always keep going. I thought Roddy Young was outstanding and we have goals all over the team.
“As for a Grand Slam, it is just one game at a time for us.”
