Strathspey Thistle boss Rob MacCormack was left frustrated after seeing his side concede three goals in just the first 10 minutes of their Highland League game with fellow strugglers Lossiemouth United.

The Jags manager was dismayed by the nature of all three goals on Saturday but even more upset by the Grantown side’s failure to gain any foothold whatsoever in the game with 80 minutes still left to play.

Henry Jordan and Ross Morrison with a double got on the scoresheet with the Jags’ rearguard switching off and all three goals coming from long balls over the top.

It was the Coasters’ second win and clean sheet in a row, following their 1-0 victory over Academy earlier in October.

MacCormack said he now has to lift morale in the camp after a good chance of getting their first points of the season was blown.

He said: “It was a really disappointing afternoon and it is my job now to pick the boys up and for us to go again on Saturday against Keith.

“Once again it is another tough game but one that I believe that if we play to the best of our ability then we can take something from.

“But we will have to put in a lot better performance than we have been doing of late.

“We need to give a good account of ourselves and if we do that then I believe we can go to Keith and get a positive result.”

The hosts sit 15th in the Highland League on five points but have played fewer games – eight – than nearly all of the other teams in the table.

MacCormack said on the latest defeat: “We were caught totally off-guard. But the most disappointing thing for me was that we still had 80 minutes to get back into the game and we were just not good enough.

“Conceding three goals in 10 minutes is a disastrous way to start a game but it was our response to that which really frustrated me.

“We simply did not do enough to get back into the game.”

MacCormack said to get caught out once by an early long punt upfield from defence was bad enough but three times was inexcusable.

“Our goalkeeper was left with three one-on-ones in a row. They were very poor goals to give away from our point of view.

“Okay to get caught-out the first time, these things happen, but for it to happen a second and then a third time is not good enough.

“The players need to learn quickly from their mistakes and hopefully stop them from happening again.”

MacCormack has pretty much a full squad to choose from for the trip to Keith on Saturday with only midfielder James McShane still sidelined through injury.
