The coaching structure at Strathspey Thistle continues to evolve with the recent appointment of Rob MacCormack as assistant manager.

MacCormack left his post as first team boss of North Caledonian League side Alness United last Wednesday – ending two and a half years with the club.

His highlights with the Easter Ross side include winning the Ness Cup in 2021, and working closely with the club's youth academy to develop graduates from their under-18 set up.

He now joins the Jags on an eighteen month deal.

The 32-year-old former midfielder, whose past clubs also include Invergordon and Golspie Sutherland, will act as second in command to interim boss Brian Ritchie – for the next few games at least – before he takes the number two seat next to a still-to-be-named permanent appointment.

He said: "It was obviously a shock to be leaving Alness half way through a season, but when the opportunity came to take the step up to a Highland League club, I felt it was something I couldn't turn down.

"The first week has gone really well, everyone at the club has made me feel welcome and everyone looking to move the club into the right direction.

"There's lots going on at the club right now. I’ve only seen and heard positive things from the board and Brian. In the short term, we will look to carry on the work Brian has been doing over the last few weeks and take it from there."

The new Thistle deputy was in the dugout for Saturday's game against Nairn County and he watched his side earn their first point since November with a 1–1 draw.

MacCormack added: "On Saturday, we proved we can compete with a lot of the other teams in the league. The result itself was excellent, and I feel we were actually very unlucky not to pick up all three points.

"It won’t be an overnight fix but from what I’ve seen the boys are working as hard as they can to make sure we pick up as many points as possible over the remaining games this season."
