Hay takes scratch win in Boat of Garten's seniors' open

At Boat of Garten on Thursday the club held its annual Seniors’ Open for gents aged 55 and over.
There was a capacity entry of 120 players with prizes being evenly distributed among local members and visiting players.
Torrential showers in the afternoon made life difficult for everyone however the club was delighted that all players managed to complete their round in the testing conditions.
Robert Morton (13), from Falkirk Golf Club, produced the best net score of the day, his 66 just pipping Norman MacKay of Brora on countback.
In the scratch section club manager Gordon Hay returned a gross 72 to take top spot.
Leading scores (Boat Of Garten unless stated)– scratch winner: GH Hay 72; r/up: S Wilson (Inverness), A Kennedy (Carnoustie) 75; P Tomisson (Nairn) 77. Overall Handicap Winner, R Morton (13) (Falkirk) 66.
Handicaps 0-12 winner: S Robertson (11) ( Royal Dornoch) 67; r/up: P Mitchell (12) 68; R Cormack (6) (Newburgh-on-Ythan), T Bell (11) (Traigh) 69; R Proud (12) , K Aitken (8) 70.
Handicaps 13-24 winner: N MacKay (14) (Brora) 66; r/up: N Cunningham (18) (Panmure) 67; M Graham (15) 68; A Boxx (18) 69; A Gill (21) (Duddingston), I Nicolson (14)(Nairn) 70.
On Saturday the ladies competed in their Captain’s Prizes and it was ladies’ club champion Caroline Bashford who triumphed with a fine score of 41 points, tying with Margaret Thompson but winning on countback.
A single shot behind came Fiona McLaren with June Clark a shot further back on 39pts.
Also, on Saturday the gents competed in their Captain’s Prizes and with a fine score of 43 points it was Colin Blair who topped the leaderboard.
Close on his heels on 42 points was Douglas Spencer with Ron Lyon in third place on 39 points.
Chris Helik and captain Alan Gristwood tied for fourth place on 38 points.
