Members of the Grantown and District Billiards and Snooker Club have pocketed a new venue for their tables.

Since its inception back in 1951, the club has had one name change – it was originally called the YMCA Men’s Club – and two venues – the YM Community Centre in Grantown and the Tin Church in Dulnain Bridge.

But times they are a-changing and the club is on the move again to a new and warmer location in the Nethy Bridge Hotel from March.

A club spokesperson explained: “The Tin Church is being sold off by the Church of Scotland. As far as we are aware there is no buyer yet but the club has been asked to vacate the premises by March 6.

“The late Jim Redden ran the club for 25 years, and worked tirelessly to secure the Tin Church as a venue in 2012.”

Members are delighted with their soon to be new home – they are set to move in in early March.

Club nights are Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7pm to 11pm and new members are always welcome.

The spokesperson said: “The fact that almost eight decades lie between the youngest and oldest members is proof that age should not be a barrier.”

There are two tables available for play, one of which is shortly to be fully refurbished. The club holds annual contests for a number of trophies – Campbell Cup (billiards singles) 1951, Ledingham Cup (snooker singles) 1952, Templeton Cup (snooker doubles) 1956, Moir Cup (billiards doubles) 1965 and Redden Quaich (snooker singles) 2012.
