Celtic have refused to give up their famous green and white hoops to Buckie Thistle for this month's big Scottish Cup clash.

And the Jags will have to pay £4500 for their first experience of VAR in their 135-year history in the televised tie on January 21.

Buckie president Garry Farquhar also revealed that his club has requested an allocation of 5000 tickets for the match, more than half of the entire population of the town.

"We have officially asked for 5000 but I don't think we will find out until the 4th," Farquhar said. "We will have to wait to see if they will agree to that but I can’t see it being a problem.

"We would rather have enough for everybody who wants a ticket, and if we end up having to send some back then fair enough. We don’t want anybody to miss out."

As for Jags cheeky request for Celtic to wear their away colours and allow Buckie to sport their green and white shirt, Farquhar said the reply was pretty emphatic.

"We did put it forward but we got a fairly quick response that it was 99.9 per cent that Celtic would be wearing their green and white hoops. Effectively it was pushed into the long grass pretty quick.

"It would have been nice to be the first team other than Celtic to play in the green and white at Celtic Park."

Farquhar joked: "All we can do now is get through to the next round and draw Rangers, then we can wear our hoops at Ibrox - that might ruffle a few feathers!"

The Sunday afternoon clash at 4pm will be screened live on Viaplay, and will be a first for Jags to use the Video Assistant Referee technology - at a cost to the Highland League outfit.

Farquhar explained: "It will be the first game in Buckie’s history involving VAR. That’s a stipulation for this round of the cup.

"It will be one of the expenses of the game which they can deduct from the gate money, so we will pay towards it.

"We believe it's £9000 for VAR so that would mean us losing £4500 of our proceeds from the game.

"The excitement for the game is certainly starting to build up now."
