Strathspey Thistle have just confirmed the departure of manager Charlie Brown from the Grantown club.

It follows a tough season for the Seafield Park outfit with just one victory so far this campaign away to Clach and being knocked out of the Scottish Cup at the first stage once again.

Strathspey have lost 7-0 in three of their last four outings and have now conceded more than 100 goals in all competitions with the season just at the halfway stage.

The Jags have been given some respite this weekend.

They were due to host league leaders Buckie Thistle tomorrow but the match has been called off because of the snow.

The club said in a statement: "Strathspey Thistle would like to confirm as from yesterday afternoon Charlie Brown has stood down from his role of team manager with immediate effect.

"The club would like to put on record their great appreciation of Charlie’s professionalism and effort he gave to the club in this tough time.

"Thank you Charlie Brown and we wish you all the best for the future."

Brown's last game in charge was a 7-0 defeat at home to Rothes with the Grantown side trailing by two goals after 11 minutes to their local rivals.

In the aftermath of the loss, he told the Strathy: “It is hard just now – they boys are trying to help by picking the bones of things that are happening to us during games.

“We are aware of where our frailties lie and it is trying to find a way to rectify that.

"The boys are finding it difficult at the moment to do that on the park.”

Brown's exit follows a short time after Mark Holmes' decision to stand down as assistant manager at the Jags.

The former Forres Mechanics assistant took on his first job as manager in summer 2021 when the Highland League returned after the enforced Covid lay-out for 18 months previous.

The Strathy has tried to contact both Brown and the club for comment.

More on this story to come.
