Kingussie High School A team won the Robertson Cup Shinty Sixes yesterday at a sun-drenched Blairbeg Park in Drumnadrochit.

The Badenoch side beat hosts Glen Urquhart High School A team 3-0 to lift the silverware.

The under-fourteen event saw the teams compete in a round robin format with Glen Urquhart High School A, Oban High School and Kingussie A and B teams winning through to the semi final stages.

Glen Urquhart beat Kingussie B in the first semi final 2-0 whilst the Kingussie A team defeated Oban High 5-0.

In the third place final Oban High, competing in the contest for the first time, defeated Kingussie B team 1-0 to claim third spot.

The final was an end to end match, however, it was Kingussie who took their chances well, running out 3-0 winners against the hosts.

Glen Urquhart High School headteacher Donald MacRae presented the Robertson Cup to Kingussie captain Joe Coyle.

There was further cheer for the Kingussie captain when he was presented with the player of the tournament award.

Event organiser Allan MacLeod said afterwards: "It was great to get the competition back up and running again following Covid.

"On behalf of Glen Urquhart High School I would like to thank Callum McLeod for refereeing, Soirbheas for their financial support and to Glen Urquhart and Strathglass shinty clubs for their assistance on the day."
