Yet more public toilets closed in Badenoch and Strathspey because of vandalism
Yet another set of public toilets in the strath have had to be locked up by Highland Council after being targetted by vandals.
It is the third time in less than a year that the local authority has had to act.
The toilets in Newtonmore’s village centre were closed yesterday after being damaged.
The window of the gent’s facilities had been smashed and attempts made to cause flooding on the presmies by chocking the sinks

A spokesperson for Highland Council said: “Unfortunately due to ongoing vandalism the amenities team has been forced to close the Newtonmore public conveniences with immediate effect.
“It is saddening and deeply disappointing to see another incidence of vandalism at one of the council’s vital public conveniences.
“There have been a number of similar incidents at other public cconveniences across the region which places a strain on already stretched finances and has the potential to threaten levels of funding to other vital public services.
“If this abuse of our public conveniences continues we may not be able to reopen affected sites.
“Regrettably the Council has had to make a decision to close the Newtonmore toilets with immediate effect while we assess the next steps for the site.
“Those responsible are asked to think hard about the consequences of their actions not only for visitors and members of the public but crucially for disabled people or elderly people who may need these facilities in an emergency.”
Angry local Highland councillor Bill Lobban said: “Spending a penny in Newtonmore is going to be more difficult for quite a while…
“The council cannot continue spending your hard earned tax money on repairing vandal damaged toilets.”
Public toilets in Carrbridge and Kingussie have both been closed recently after also suffering vandalism.
The council spokesman confirmed that the WCs were now both back in use.
Public toilets in Ballachulish, Station Brae in Fort William and Dingwall are also currently closed dur to vandalism.
