Carrbridge public toilets closed by Highland Council after being targeted by vandals

Carrbridge has been left without public toilets after they were targeted by vandals at the weekend.

Highland Council said it had closed the facilities in the centre of the village by the car park with immediate effect.

The light fitting in the gents was knocked off the ceiling on Saturday causing all the lights in the facility to blow.

Kingussie has been left without public toilets since December, last year, after vandals repeatedly struck there.

A council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately due to ongoing vandalism, The Highland Council has had to close the Carrbridge public toilets with immediate effect.

“The council is extremely disappointed with the way in which this and other facilities across the region continue to be treated.

“As has occurred at other sites where ongoing vandalism is an recurring issue, the council has had to instruct an immediate closure.

“These facilities will not be reopened until the daily threat of vandalism is reduced. This latest incident has been reported to the police.

"Those responsible are asked to think hard about the consequences of their actions, not only for visitors and members of the public, but crucially for disabled people who may rely on these facilities in an emergency.”

Badenoch and Strathspey Highland councillor Bill Lobban is furious about this latest incident.

He said: "Yet more public toilets vandalised this time in Carrbridge.

"The toilets are currently closed and will remain so whilst Highland Council evaluates the situation.

"What a disgraceful waste of public money."
