The Federation of Small Businesses has announced the finalists for this year’s FSB Scotland “Celebrating Small Business Awards” and a Tomatin business is on the list - WOW Scotland in the Micro Business of the Year category.

Finalists are chosen because they are exceptional, not just in the Highlands & Islands but in Scotland as a whole, and as the FSB Awards grow from strength-to-strength and the number of entries increases every year, so it is becoming ever harder for businesses to stand out from the crowd. Selecting winners is a very hard task for judges.

WOW Scotland, founded in 2010, offers a range of scheduled tours which aim to showcase "the very best of Scotland".

The firm initially offered hiking tours, then progressed to small sightseeing tours before expanding further to "more than just a handful of lucky customers each day."

It has now grown to one of the top tour companies in the Highlands: number 1 on TripAdvisor and 5 star rated by Visit Scotland.

FSB Highlands & Islands area leader Tanja Lister, said: “Smaller businesses really do lie at the heart of their communities, and at a time of economic uncertainty it is vitally important that they evolve and adapt, not just to meet changing circumstances, but to stay ahead of the game.

"After all, increasing numbers are not just competing locally; they are competing against the rest of Scotland, the UK, and indeed, the world.

“It is really important that we all encourage and support our businesses, and that we recognise those that go the extra mile. The FSB Awards are all about celebrating excellence, and I’m delighted to see such a fine and diverse haul of businesses from the Inverness area. I wish them all the best at the awards lunch in March.”

The event, on March 19 at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh will see over 200 businesses from across Scotland gather to celebrate small businesses, self-employed workers and the huge contribution they all make to the Scottish economy and our communities.

Winners of Scottish Awards – all bar the Community Award, which is for Scotland only – go forward to the UK final in London in May.

The Highlands & Islands finalists heading to Edinburgh are:

Micro Business – WOW Scotland, Tomatin

Business Product Innovation – Glencoe Activities, Ballachulish

Community Business of the Year – Buth Bharraigh, Barra

Digital/e-Commerce – Yellow Cherry Digital, Inverness

International Business – The TEFL Org, Inverness

Self-employed/Sole Trader – My Primary Tutor, Inverness
