Bitterly cold in Badenoch and Strathspey tonight – and brace yourselves for more

Temperatures continued to fall throughout the strath overnight and left Badenoch and Strathspey with, at last, some genuinely predictable weather for the time of year.

After months of gloom and doom over unseasonable warmth, December has begun in more traditional style.

One garden thermometer in Kincraig had the morning's figure at -11 and the weathermen are expecting the trend to continue for a few days yet.

One of the warmest places to be this morning was outside the Boat Hotel, whose beautiful garden came complete with very a very efficient picnic heater - not that anyone was taking advantage of it.

From the Brae in Kincraig across to Braeriach early in the mornings the Cairngorms stood proud in all their splendour.
