Will Northern Lights make an appearance tonight? Met Office thinks the chances are high

Aurora watchers will get a great chance to spot the Northern Lights in the Highlands tonight, forecasters believe.
The Met Office says there is a "growing chance" of seeing them "especially Thursday night".
Viewing conditions are expected to be almost ideal this evening, with recent clear skies reducing the chances of cloud ruining the fun.
And the moon, which can wash out displays with its light when full, will also not be an issue – with the current new moon meaning our natural satellite will not be making its presence felt tonight.

A Met Office spokesman said: "There is a growing chance of seeing the Northern Lights over the coming few nights, especially Thursday night.
"Aurora may be visible where skies remain clear across Scotland, as well as potentially as far south as Northern Ireland, north Wales, northern and central England.
The forecast comes after a good winter for Northern Lights aficionados, with multiple spectacular displays delighting onlookers during the darker nights. The displays have been helped by natural cycles in sunspot activity on the sun, with our nearest star currently approaching so-called Solar Maximum, when it is particularly active and more likely to generate the storms that create the auroras at our north and south poles.
