Money from the sales of a new beer will be donated to help protect wildlife in the Cairngorms.

Aviemore-based Cairngorm Brewery took the opportunity to launch its Caillie ale, in 500ml bottles, at the Cairngorms Nature event, held on Saturday in Aviemore.

At the same event it handed over a cheque for £600 to the Highland Wildlife Park following sales of its Wildcat ale, where 15p of sales for every 12-bottle case goes to the good cause.

Identical contributions have been set up for the Caillie, which is the company’s third beer to be involved in such as scheme, with sales of Autumn Nuts generating cash for the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

Although it has featured in some pubs, it was the first chance to grab a bottle of the Caillie.

It's a 3.8 per cent abv pale golden drink, which according to its creators has a subtle malt background and long lasting citrus hop bitterness, after a new recipe was introduced this year.

"At Cairngorm Brewery we are all passionate about this special area in which we live and work and therefore it makes sense to support local wildlife projects," said Samantha Faircliff, the company’s managing director.

She explained its green policy when hiring its 18 full and part-time staff: "We try to find staff locally, as environmental sustainability underpins many commercial decisions that we make. By employing locally, the carbon footprint for staff travelling to work is minimised."

With a portfolio of beers, from a light continental style to a dark traditional stout, the brewery have 10 permanent bottled beers, with seasonal and monthly specials adding to the selection available on draught and occasionally in limited edition bottles.
