A Wee Cromdale Loon has come to the aid of his village’s church wth a nice boost to the coffers.

Jimmie McQueen has raised some 1,100 by sales of his autobiography – including stalls at last year’s Grantown Show and Abernethy Highland Games.

Jimmie explained: “‘A Wee Cromdale Loon’ is a book I wrote about growing up in Cromdale, and at the age of 16 years having the foresight to join the Royal Marines and go out into the big wide world.

“After that I was successful in being accepted into the police, where I served mainly in the CID before retiring after 30 years holding the rank of Detective Inspector.”

He visited his beloved Cromdale at the weekend from his home in Stevenage to hand over the cheque.

Jimmie said: “I picked the Cromdale church groups to benefit from the sales and royalties because – now in my late years – I reflect on the happy memories I have of going to Sunday School there, and the Rev Dr Joseph Grant, his wife Mary, son Graham, and daughter Lindsay, who put on lovely Christmas parties for us at the Manse.

“There have also been many other events including sadly, funerals and old friends and relatives are buried in the graveyard.”

His time in the Royal Marines included serving on board HMS Ark Royal, and he also used his time at sea to learn to play the bagpipes.

Dianne Brazier made a speech on behalf of the church thanking Jimmie for his kind donation at Friday’s hand-over.
