Water supplies were disrupted in Aviemore today.

Homes and businesses in Aviemore were temporarily left without a water supply in the Cairngorm Avenue area of the town today.

Those affected also included Aviemore Primary School and the adjoining community centre and the outage was between 11am and 1pm.

It is understood that the cause was a burst outside the Scottish Fire and Rescue Station, just off in Grampian Road, during the installation of a nearby electric vehicle charging point.

A Scottish Water spokeswoman said: “We were alerted to the burst around 11am and a squad attended to investigate. They were able to isolate the burst and get the majority of properties affected in the surrounding location back into supply by 1pm.

“We currently have a team on site who are working to repair the burst itself, which is still affecting approximately 25 properties.

"Due to its proximity to nearby buildings they are having to excavate and locate the burst by hand.

“We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by this burst and assure them our teams are working as hard as possible to repair the pipe and return supply to all properties.”

A spokeswoman from the primary school confirmed they were without a water supply around lunchtime but they managed to remain open during the incident.

In addition she said the school's nursery was partially closed on Monday and fully closed, both yesterday and today, after staff members tested positive for Covid-19.
