WATCH: 'This makes up for no Santa run in Grantown'

Badenoch and Strathspey farmers 'made up for not having a Santa tractor run at Christmas' with an unannounced convoy last night in Grantown.

Commenting on a social media video, Kingussie's Ruaridh Ormiston made the remark as no fewer than 20 tractors paraded past the offices of the Cairngorms National Park Authority to make their point about the way agricultural interests were being 'sidelined' by the park authority.

Most of the tractors, which had driven from a wide area of the strath, made their point using banners and cards bearing comments including 'Rural lives matter'; 'You cannot eat trees'; 'Bring us on board'; "We are major stakeholders, engage us directly please' and many others.

Mr Ormiston explained: "We surprised the Cairngorms National Park Authority board by turning up in such numbers.

"They expected just the office-bearers of the new Farmers and Crofters Forum which formed this month and had agreed to discuss closer links.

"We didn't actually say we'd be turning up in convoy and then packing into their meeting room.

"I think we made our point..."
