It is fair to say that the owners of a property in the running for Scotland’s Home of the Year had very different impressions when they first visited the house.

Judges Anna Campbell-Jones, Banjo Beale and Danny Campbell head to the Highlands and Islands on Monday in the popular BBC Scotland TV show to visit three unique properties in their latest search for their favourite home.

The trio must choose between a historic fishing lodge in the strath, a self-build home on the Isle of Lewis and a converted croft house, also on the island.

Earth House, described as being in the Aviemore area, dates back to the 18th Century and belongs to Dianne Dain and Salem Avan.

But their first impressions of the property were very different. Watch by clicking here.

Dianne said: “It was a classic Scottish rainy night when we got here and it was kind of scary actually.

“We went into the house and it was quite dilapidated. There was not a functioning kitchen; there was not a functioning bathroom. There was water pouring through it and mushrooms growing out.

“I just ran out of the house saying ‘No, no, absolutely not and Salem ran out of the house saying it is perfect.”

Salem said: “I just thought it was sad and it just kind of needed to be recovered…

“It is in a beautiful spot in the world right by the river.”

See how they Dianne and Salem get on this Monday night at 8.30pm on BBC One Scotland.
