Transformation of Inverness Castle into a world-class visitor attraction is continuing apace, according to one of the project's leading lights.
In a video released by the Inverness Castle Experience, Highland Council's principal project manager Jason Kelman highlighted 'considerable progress' made since November.
Opening in 2025, the new flagship city venue for locals and visitors will celebrate the ‘spirit of the Highlands’ through stories past, present and future.
It is benefitting from from £30m from the Scottish and UK governments, Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and a range of other partners to support the redevelopment.
The project is part of the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, which is a joint initiative supported by up to £315m investment from the UK and Scottish governments, The Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the University of the Highlands and Islands, aimed at stimulating sustainable regional economic growth.
Mr Kelman reveals the South Tower terrace roof is now in place, with the old pitched roof removed.
West terrace progress has continued with the link building structure now in place.
Focus is now shifting to getting the South Tower up to the same level as the North Tower where worked has progressed to the stage that internal decoration works are underway.
The South Tower will be wind and watertight within the next few weeks.
Mr Kelman said: "All in all, we're looking good.
"The contract is currently on program and we are within budget."
Meanwhile, the project is placing the local workforce at the heart of it.
Two thirds of the subcontractors enlisted are based locally within the Highland region with the rest, where specialist skills are required, coming from close reach of the area.
The Highland Council has deliberately prioritised, where possible, the engagement of local talent and businesses, contributing to the sustainable development of the Highland area.

Councillor Ian Brown, leader of Inverness City and Area and co-chairman of the Inverness Castle Delivery Group, said: “The need for us to keep recruiting and retaining local talent in the Highlands has never been greater. Whether that’s for building homes, transport infrastructure or to meet net zero targets.
“By involving residents and businesses from the Highlands, the project becomes a collective effort that resonates with the people who call this area home. This deliberate choice not only demonstrates our dedication to the community but also showcases the exceptional skill and craftsmanship available in the Highlands."
