A heated exchange has taken place in Highland Council chambers today with threats to eject a councillor.

During the debate of Caledonian Thistle’s application for a battery storage facility Councillor Duncan Macpherson was warned by Highland Council convener Bill Lobban that he could be thrown out of the meeting.

Councillor Lobban said: "Whilst I have never asked a member to leave this chamber in the past, if you don't moderate what you are saying you are very much in danger of that happening."

Mr Macpherson, who used to live in Aviemore, was eventually told to sit down by the council convener and the discussion was moved on.

Highland Council rejected Caledonian Thistle’s application for a battery storage facility at Fairways after the project was pulled-in for review.

In all 30 councillors voted for refusal, 23 in favour and three abstained.

The football club had wanted the project – a battery energy storage system (BESS) worth £3.8 million – to secure its financial future, which it is now feared could be in grave jeopardy.
