After something of a pause in emergency call-outs, the volunteers of the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team were back out on 'parade' on Monday night after an alarm call from Braeriach.

The call came at 9pm for a walker who had got into difficulties.

A team spokesperson confirmed: "Due to the potential for a stretcher carry, 17 team members made their way onto the hill with the assistance of coastguard helicopter Rescue 151 Maritime & Coastguard Agency."

But the conditions were against the coastguards and the ground party was left to its own devices.

"Poor weather unfortunately removed air support during deployment," the spokesperson said.

The walker was successfully traced after a long search.

After some treatment the casualty was able to walk off with the help of team members – who were not back at their Aviemore base until 3.30am.

Note: the team are funded essentially by public donations and all contributions are welcome.
