The Strathy understands that the force was not with Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi today on Cairngorm Mountain – in fact, it is said to have blown him and his film crew off the hill.

Secrecy surrounds the event with, we understand, all kinds of non-disclosure agreements having been put in place, but when Ewan McGregor – multi-award winning star of stage, big screen and small screen – passes you on the hill, in the street and in a local cafe, some jaws drop open anyway.

Several local fans have told us that they couldn't believe their eyes as they saw the hero of Star Wars, Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge, Black Hawk Down, The Ghost Writer (our favourite) and so many other box- and ticket-office hits.

"I can only say it was definitely Ewan," said one witness, as her heart-rate slowly descended to normal after spotting him in Badenoch.

Word is that the 52-year-old actor, director and adventurer was here to film an advert but no-one has been able to confirm precisely what type and for whom.

The Strathy has thus far been unable to identify the production company involved and it's unknown if they plan to return here to try again when the weather is more conducive to making commercials.

In a glittering career, Mr McGregor's performances have conferred upon him a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to drama and charity in 2016.

He has distinguished himself as an ambassador for UNICEF UK since 2004.

On one previous visit to Badenoch he filmed the hugely popular "Salmon fishing in the Yemen" with Emily Blunt (2011).
