A moment of madness when a motorist carried out a jaw-dropping manoeuvre at the new Dalfaber Drive junction has been captured on camera.

There has been plenty of criticism in Aviemore of the newly-created junction with Grampian Road which is still yet to be completely finished.

The lack of give way markings on the new road surface itself has been slammed but even so it does not explain the driver's action at the weekend as social media users were quick to point out.

Kirsti McIntyre, who posted the clip following the incident on Saturday, told the Strathy: "It's frustrating enough that this new junction has taken so long to create but when drivers don't pay attention to the temporary signage then it's an accident waiting to happen."

Barry Sayer posted on local social media: "How would lights, paint or anything really make any difference. Just horrendous driving - probably on his or her smartphone."

Dan Green simply said: "That is special."

Dave Ward remarked: "What's driving on the wrong side of the road got to do with the road layout? Bad driving is the culprit here."

Raymond Stewart posted: "Must have been right behind you. Seen this and wondered if I was seeing things."

But Linda Bamford said: "It may be bad driving but the contractor hasn't left it as safe as they possibly could considering it's a bank holiday with lots of tourists expected.

"It is only a matter of time until there is an accident – hopefully just a wee bump."

And Mary Payne said: "Just at the time that there is a lot of people in the village who are not familiar with the junction, it is plain crazy to have no white lines at all at the end of Dalfaber Drive."

"The tiny sign on the adjacent pavement could be easily missed."

The junction had been due to be completed last summer but is still on-going.

The project has drawn huge criticism questioning the need for the redesign of the junction; what is being put in place and how the scheme has been carried out by Highland Council and its contractor Pat Munro Construction.
