Vandals cause extensive damage to Grantown golf course

Police are hunting vandals who caused "thousands of pounds" worth of damage to Grantown Golf Club’s course.
They were reported to have taken motorised buggies on a joy ride.
Five buggies were taken from a compound and driven across the course before being abandoned.
Club professional Lewis Ware said two of the petrol-powered buggies - worth £4500 each - were a "write-off" while the others were also damaged.
The buggies, which were a mixture of both leased and owned by the club, were driven all over the course, taking chunks out of the bunkers and other areas.
"It is extremely upsetting and distressing," said Mr Ware.
"They have been basically taken on a joy ride and used as bumper cars, it seems. The damage could be upwards of £20,000. We are awaiting for assessments."
Police appealed for information to catch the culprits.
"Substantial damage was caused to the buggies and various areas of the course," said a Police Scotland spokeswoman.
The incident happened overnight between Monday and Tuesday.
Established in 1890 Grantown-on-Spey Golf Club is said to be one of the finest golf venues in Cairngorm National Park area.
The course was designed by golf legends Willie Park with assistance from James Braid.
