Police investigating an Inverness fire, where a man died during the early hours of this morning, have confirmed that the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
The alarm was first raised at 2.26am and officers from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, together with Police Scotland, launched an investigation once the blaze was out.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman this afternoon confirmed progress with the investigation and added: "The fire is not being treated as suspicious."
The body of a 57-year-old man was discovered in a first floor flat in a three storey building in Queensgate and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire.
The fire and rescue service sent a total of four appliances to Queensgate – three from Inverness and one from Dingwall.
Once they arrived they used four sets of breathing apparatus, one main jet and a hose reel jet to tackle the blaze.
Emergency services were still on the scene at 9am as the investigation progressed.
Queensgate was closed while they were fighting the fire but a Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed that it has since been reopened.
