A MAN has died following a major crash on a Highland trunk road, police have confirmed.

The man, who has not been named, died at the scene following a crash between a car and a motorcycle on the A835 near Garve at around 11.10am.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 11.10am on Saturday, to a report of a crash involving a car and a motorbike on the A835 near Garve.

“Emergency services attended and a 65-year-old man, the motorcyclist, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

“The road is currently closed for crash investigation work to take place and drivers are asked to avoid the area."

The police statement was made at 4.17pm.

Traffic Scotland has urged motorists to "take care" near the area of the crash, and also confirmed the road was closed in its most recent update at 4.10pm.

The closure's location at Loch Garve means motorists travelling between the west and east coasts face major diversions, either via the A890, A87 and A887 and through Invermoriston to the south, or up through Ullapool and on past Elphin before turning east towards Lairg via Rosehall in the north.
