THE Kessock Bridge has reopened to traffic after a closure of around six hours this evening – the second major disruption on the busy A9 link within the last 24 hours.

The closure was first signalled by Traffic Scotland at 4.08pm this afternoon with heavy rush hour traffic quickly building up.

It's understood that the bridge was closed due to concern for the welfare of an individual who is now safe.

It was described as a police incident.

The incident resulted in knock-on heavy traffic on the A862 Inverness to Beauly road as motorists sought an alternative way around the obstruction.

The closure coincided with one of the busiest times of the week for traffic both sides of the bridge.
