A ward at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness has now reopened after being closed to an outbreak of scabies.

The affected ward was 3A.

Ward closure at Highland hospital due to scabies

An NHS Highland spokeswoman confirmed it has now reopened after infection control measures were put in place.

The contagious skin condition is caused by tiny mites which burrow into the skin.

Symptoms include intense itching, especially at night, and a raised rash or spots.

It can take up to eight weeks to appear from the point of infection.
