Two more cases of coronavirus have been confirmed among patients in Ward 2C at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

The ward has been closed since Saturday after an outbreak of coronavirus.

Visitors and new patients are still banned from the ward in a bid to halt the spread.

NHS Highland said the move was initially made after "detection of a very small number of cases of Covid-19" but it has not revealed how many cases were registered at that time.

In an update this evening, a spokesman said: "Ward 2C at Raigmore Hospital remains closed to new admissions and visiting following the detection of a small number of cases of Covid-19. There has been a further two cases identified since Monday’s update, however none of those affected are giving any immediate cause for concern.

"We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone they should continue to adhere to physical-distancing guidelines, wear a face-covering when in enclosed spaces, clean your hands and surfaces regularly and immediately self-isolate and book a test if you develop symptoms."
