NHS Highland area reports 26 fresh coronavirus infections; increase comes as Scotland recorded 858 new Covid-19 cases in the past day

THE NHS Highland area has recorded a further 26 coronavirus cases.

The region's cumulative total rose from 1697 to 1723 when the latest daily update was published.

There were 858 new positive tests across Scotland in the past day.

The number of people receiving treatment for the virus in hospital fell 19 to 1012.

Of those, there were 50 people in intensive care ­– up one since yesterday.

And sadly a further 30 people who previously tested positive for the virus have since died.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases of Covid-19 in NHS Eileanan Siar, NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney.

There were 103 new cases in NHS Grampian, which has now detected 5996 infections since the beginning of the pandemic.

And NHS Tayside saw its overall tally rise 34 to 6856.

Scotland has now recorded 109,296 cases since the spring.
