Transport Scotland 'urgently reviewing' A9 hold-ups at Dunkeld

Transport Scotland has said there is an urgent review under way to assess how to prevent the long queues of traffic that have been building up on the A9 by Dunkeld.
SGN’s specialist traffic management team has also moved on site in a bid to prevent a repeat of delays of up to two and a half hours last week caused by the roadworks put in place as the company relocates a gas mains.
The section of roadworks only stretches for around 30 metres but has caused huge frustration including to visitors going to The Enchanted Forest currently on show at Pitlochry.
Highland Council convener Bill Lobban has hit out at the situation yesterday saying that it is damaging the North's economy.
A spokesman for Transport Scotland said: "We understand the frustration of drivers and the concerns of stakeholders, including the team at the Enchanted Forest, at the major disruption on the A9 this week following the introduction of SGN roadworks.
“This critical SGN work to relocate the gas main has been scheduled to avoid the busiest part of the year on the A9 and that decision had been based on understanding of traffic flows across the route and at the specific locations the work is being undertaken.
"However, there is an urgent review of these plans under way following the concerns raised.
“Meantime, together with BEAR Scotland, we are meeting daily with SGN to explore all options to optimise traffic flows and also to improve public messaging, including additional roadside variable message signs.
“We know how disruptive delays can be for people and businesses and the impact this can cause. That’s why SGN’s specialist traffic management team are on site to clear any congestion as quickly as possible.
