A motorist who was too tired to drive crashed his vehicle into a fence near Boat of Garten.

The collision happened on the A95 on August 10, last year and at Inverness Sheriff Court, 62 year old Roy Dunn of Knowhead Crescent, Kirriemuir, admitted driving carelessly and causing his car to leave the carriageway.

Dunn was originally charged with dangerous driving and falling asleep at the wheel which would have attracted a mandatory one year at least disqualification.

Dunn would also have had to resit his driving test. But he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge and Sheriff Gary Aitken decided a discretionary ban was “inevitable” due to the offence.

He banned Dunn from driving for six weeks and also fined him £640 yesterday.
