Thunderstorms set to hit Cairngorms and other parts of the Highlands today

THE Met Office are warning of heavy showers and thunderstorms set to hit Inverness and the Cairngorms this afternoon.

A yellow weather warning was issued earlier today for the area, with possible disruption to travel and affecting driving conditions.

Lightning strikes might cause damage to buildings and structures while the storm lasts.

Adverse weather is expected to last until 10pm tonight.
