Generous visitors to Highland Hospice's grotto managed to donate more than £8500 during December.

It was in the Eastgate Shopping Centre and a hospice spokesman said the total was "incredible" and added"Thank you so much to everyone who came through the door.

"And of course a special thanks must go to Santa and his wonderful elves who now take some much needed rest."

An Eastgate spokesman said it had provided some January cheer and added: "We are delighted that our Santa's Grotto partnership with Highland Hospice raised over £8500 for this amazing local charity. A huge thank you to everyone who supported."
