WATCH: 'Hiding Scotsman' flies into Aviemore to bafflement of crowds

Hundreds of steam train enthusiasts were baffled this morning as the most famous locomotive in the world arrived to escort them through the beautiful landscape of Strathspey.

"Is it the Flying Scotsman?" asked one youngster as the backside of an engine chugged into town.

"That could be any train at all..."

With all the carriages safely delivered to Aviemore Station's special steam railway platform they were pleased to see that, of course, it was the loco which had once broken all the speed records in the hey-day of steam.

"Don't worry," said one of the volunteers who do such a marvellous job with the Strathspey Steam Railway, which this weekend celebrates its spectacular vintage gala, "you'll see it in all its glory when it comes round to the front of the train."

The hundreds waiting on the platform watched as the loco uncoupled, reversed to the points and gracefully moved up the siding to take its place at the head of the train for the trip back to Boat of Garten and Broomhill.
